1. Who is a Periodontist?
A Periodontist is a dentist with advanced training in the diagnosis and treatment of Periodontal Disease. Periodontics is one of 8 specialties recognized by the American Dental Association. They are specialists in periodontal disease treatment which can be helped with some dental equipment and dental supply, cosmetic periodontal procedures, and dental implant placement.

2. When Should See a Periodontist?
If you value your oral, as well as, your overall health, anytime is a good time to see a periodontist for a periodontal evaluation. Sometimes the only way to detect periodontal disease is through a periodontal evaluation.
Signs of periodontal disease include:
a) Red, swollen or tender gums
b) Bleeding while brushing, flossing or eating hard foods
c) Gums that are reseeding or pulling away from the teeth, causing the teeth to look longer than before
d) Loose or separating teeth
e) Pus between your gums and teeth
f) Sores in your mouth
g) Persistent bad breath
h) A change in the way your teeth fit together when you bite
i) A change in the fit of partial dentures


3. Who Should See a Periodontist?
a) Who those are planning to become pregnant
b) Have heart disease, diabetes or respiratory disease
c) Feel that your teeth are too short or that your smile is too “gummy
d) Are not satisfied with your current tooth replacement option
e) Have a sore or irritation in your mouth that does not get better within two weeks

4. Why should see a periodontist?
It is believed that most people will have at least one case of mild gum disease in their lifetime. Further, it's estimated that 50 to 90 per cent of the adult population has some degree of gum disease. It can cause swollen gums, ulcers and bleeding when brushing. Periodontists are experts in the treatment of gum disease with some special dental equipment. Your periodontal disease may progress to the point where only a Periodontist may be able to help you. Periodontists receive extensive training, including 3 additional years beyond dental school, in order to learn state-of-the-art techniques for diagnosing and treating periodontal diseases even no dental supply.
